Premeditated Business Networking

Because…success doesn’t just happen.

Can you tell a “professional visitor” from “someone who really wants to get business done?”

Have you ever met someone, had a brief discussion, then afterwards wondered . . .

  • · What was her/his name again?
  • · What did he/she say she did?
  • · Why would I care?
  • · Did he/she want something?

There are those that dive into a well-rehearsed elevator a runaway train, full speed ahead without regard or understanding of where they are going.

Some people believe in the “throw enough crap at the wall something will stick” approach to selling. But when you are selling yourself, what you do or how you get it done, this method can just leave a real mess to clean up later.

Many business professionals look for business in an Apple Orchard when they should be in the Orange Grove. Would you know if you were in the right place?

When marketing your business to your peers, associates and potential clients they need to be excited to do business with you. Not just know what you do.

  • · Take a quick tour of where you are at now.
  • · Map out your business and strategic partners - creating clarity like never before.
  • · Create a concise marketing plan and set goals.
  • · Learn how to effectively work an event and capitalize on every opportunity.

Bad management, new competition led to Sharky's bankruptcy
Sharky's bankruptcy filing was brought on by bad management and the opening of two new restaurants nearby, managing owner John Golon told me today. Sharky's Gulf Grill LLC, the operator of the upscale seafood restaurant at 6201 Poplar Ave. in East Memphis, voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 protection with $954,067 in debts,  as I reported Thursday. Golon, also chief manager and part owner of Collierville-based Danver's, said mismanagement contributed to the debts, as well as the opening of…

Memphis banking snapshot: Who’s most popular on Poplar?
There is no stretch of road anywhere in Memphis with a higher concentration of bank branches and offices than the roughly two-mile corridor of Poplar Avenue from Perkins Extended eastward to Aaron Brenner Drive. There are 44 bank branches along that route (about 22 per mile or one every 80 yards), representing 27 different institutions, so the competition is fierce for consumers’ attention and accounts. So who is the king of this bank branch buffet? Regions Bank. The Birmingham, Ala.-based bank…

Amp bill ends where it began: General Assembly will still need to give OK
While the design features of the Amp dodged the purview of the General Assembly this session, particularly its dedicated center lane, the project will still need the state legislature’s blessing. The compromise measure passed by the Senate and House Thursday scratched Senate language many supporters feared would scuttle the project, as it would have restricted center-lane design restrictions on the Amp and similar projects running along state highways. Despite the absence of the design limitations,…

The rents at apartment complexes throughout Nashville should only keep rising as the year goes on, according to commercial real estate brokerage Colliers International. The report from the firm's Nashville office, issued this week, reinforces Nashville's newfound status as a must-have address, particularly among young professionals.
