Over the past week I have met four business professionals that go on and on about the different businesses they have. After the second business summary my eyes became glazed over and I checked out. Think about yourself when was the last time you met someone who said - I am (name) and (I have thee or four businesses.) I help people with - I also do -- I developed -- and I am thinking about --. You step back and go wow! At least I do.
In this world many business professionals have a need or solutions have multiple streams of income. This is great however, think about what you do.
Stand in front of a mirror and introduce yourself along with all your businesses. It would be a good idea to tape your introduction and listen to yourself.
Take a deep breath and think about what you do to help others with your businesses.
THINK SOLUTIONS!
As you listen to yourself introducing yourself - would you trust you if you were a stranger. What would you think as you walked away?
Let me give you an example:
Let's say you do financial planning, mortgage, sell insurance, investing and maybe a multi level offer. All the different solutions may be good and help many people in a specific situation. However, listing each and everyone of your business would turn the average person to run the other way. Think solution - if you presented the collective businesses as a solution to your consumer they would understand the solution. How you do it with different entities would be a step-by-step process you do to accomplish the problem.
If I have a challenge and you have a solution - I am ready to listen. If I have a challenge with my finances and you come to me or introduce yourself as a solution to the typical problem I would listen. When you meet with me you would develop a step-by-step solution with your multi-businesses or business partners. Walking me through the solution to my problem. This scenario is simple when all the businesses are related and make sense.
What if you have a business collection that do not work hand-in-hand. When you introduce yourself and your businesses that are not a solution. You become a directory of businesses and loose your credibility with all of them. Think about the positioning of each of your businesses. Choose the one you will promote within your audience the listener. Your challenge is not to become the directory or "want ad" of businesses.
I received a email this week from another business professional who has several more than four businesses that are not related. I read the email and wondered - what are they asking for? I had no clue what they were looking for as a business.
Remember your message should be clear, concise and specific of what you are asking.
I am not advocating that you cannot have multiple business ventures, it is in the communication of them that we all need to revisit.
People buy from people they like, trust and know -
